The summer school for young is organized as part of the project LIFE Mercury Free, Work Package WP4: "Organizing the wide informational and educational campaign and the behavioural change activities".

The “Mercury-Free City” summer school for young aims to educate participants about the dangers of mercury pollution and promote sustainable practices to reduce mercury use in urban environments. 

Specific goals are:   

  • Raise Awareness: Educate participants about the sources and impacts of mercury pollution on health and the environment.
  • Promote Safe Practices: Teach methods to reduce mercury use and manage mercury waste safely.
  • Encourage Community Engagement: Foster community involvement in mercury-free initiatives and policies.
  • Develop Skills: Equip participants with practical skills for monitoring and mitigating mercury pollution.
  • Innovate Solutions: Encourage the development of innovative solutions and technologies to create mercury-free cities.

What to Expect:

  • Interactive Workshops: Hands-on sessions on identifying mercury sources and safe handling practices.
  • Expert Lectures: Talks from environmental scientists, public health experts, and policymakers.
  • Field Trips: Visits to sites affected by mercury pollution and facilities implementing mercury-free practices.
  • Collaborative Projects: Group projects aimed at developing actionable plans to reduce mercury pollution in participants’ communities.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with like-minded individuals and professionals in the field of environmental science and public health.

This program is designed to be both educational and practical, providing participants with the knowledge and tools to make a real impact in their communities.
